"My Family Is Different" is nearly ready.

I just recently got the cover art in for Jessica Marie Baumgartner's children's picture book, "My Family is Different." This is the last item that I was waiting on before I could get the proof run started. I am very excited as this is the first children's picture book through us. In this book we meet a little girl that tells us how her family is different, and a bit about the families of her friends. Even though they are different they all get along, and a beautiful picture is painted of the world religions is painted through the book. Laura Winship-Fanaei's illustrations fit the tone of the book precisely.

Selkies' Skins: Castle and Well print cover reveal

The art for the print edition's cover was delivered to me on the 17th, St Paddy's day. There have been a few complications at home that slowed getting the text elements laid onto it...but it is ready and the proof will be on the way very soon.

For those that would like a poster version of the artwork without the bookcover's textual elements, it is available on Zazzle to purchase for $19.90. Proceeds from any sales of the poster art will be split between myself and the artist, Samantha Buckley.

Selkies' Skins #1: Castle and Well ebook release

Today is the long awaited (finally) release day for the ebook editions of the first book in the "Selkies' Skins" series, "Castle and Well." The print edition is still awaiting receipt of the cover art from Samantha Buckley, but it is hoped that it will arrive soon.

Kirsty has little choice in her fate, only how it will manifest. There are tests to pass, a place that she may have to occupy prematurely if her visions prove true, and a need to earn her sealskin to be complete. Will Etain return safe to port, and will Kirsty survive her training and test? There are complications along the way, will she be able to stay on the course she's trying to set? In this first book of what is intended to be a trilogy Kirsty must ultimately go down the Lady's well for the first of her tests of fitness, while also having to balance school, family, and a certain young lad.

For additional side stories, please look in the Selkies' Skins Wavelets stories.

It is also author Teresa Garcia's birthday today. On the 13th was author Marantha D. Jenelle's (she is missed) and also cover artist Victoria "Salaiek" Davis.

"Ornaments" and "Pearls of Sea and Stone: Book of Seals" from the Selkies' Skins universe of stories have been uploaded to Amazon and should go live in the next few days. These are optional adjuncts to go with Selkies' Skins that do not fit in the novel series, yet give a bit of additional depth to the lives of the Makays.

Selkies #1 Progress

After a lot of fighting with formatting (I still can't figure out why some of the formats fail conversion sometimes but will go through others). I have .epub, .mobi, and .pdf version of Selkies' Skins (book one): Castle and Well up on Smashwords. If I can figure out why the other formats won't work then I will find a way to make those available. I begin to suspect though that it may have something to do with special letters necessary in some of the words. I may have to do direct orders from the publishing website for some formats, which will require some time to have a discussion with our webmaster about how to go about implementing that. It was something I had been pondering doing anyway at some point other than email orders.

Closer to publish time I will get it up direct onto Amazon for Kindle. First I want to send out the ones that the Kickstarter backers get for their patience and funding assistance.

I am still waiting for the print edition's cover from Samantha Buckley. Once I have that in hand I can finish up the print edition and get that sent out to the distribution venues. Her art is more dynamic than the ebook edition's cover art (which was contributed to by my daughter) and I look forward to being able to showcase it.

Selkies' News

While we are still waiting on the cover art for the print edition of the book, I have scheduled the release of the ebook edition with the ebook's cover for March 16th, my birthday. Cross your fingers, this was originally planned for December/January release. Those that participated in the Kickstarter and chose an ebook as their preferred method of reading/delivery will have their copies in the next few weeks. I am still hoping for the print edition's cover art to be done soon so that I can include the front of that in the file.

The print edition will be ready as soon as Samantha is able to deliver her art to me. My apologies to everyone that has been waiting for so long, as we are several weeks behind schedule for release due to life events. However, be cheered that Illya Leonov is making good and fast progress on the audio edition.

What's on the desk

The contract between Jo Anne Spiese and myself to publish "The Witches' Prayerbook" has been signed as of today and work will begin on my end as soon as I've received her manuscript.

Regarding the first book of "Selkies' Skins" we are still waiting on the print cover art for release. Ebook will be released around the same time. Currently regarding the audio version, Illya Leonov has finished Chapter Seven and is working on Chapter 8. At the rate he works I expect to be proofing that very soon.

Selkies Skins Book One: Castle and Well is being voiced by Illya Leonov, and the first two chapters are recorded. Selkies' Skins #1 (Castle and Well) proof copy incoming

The first physical proof for the print edition of Selkies' Skins book one (Castle and Well) has been ordered and is expected to arrive around January 14th. This first proof does not have the official print cover art on it. I am still waiting for Samantha Buckley to be able to work on that. However while waiting if we go through the interior data that means that the ebook edition will be out that much faster.
Interior art for the print and ebook edition include and excerpt from a fanart cover that was done by Marantha D. Jenelle a short time before she crossed over, as well as two pieces done for the divider pages by myself. These will be in both print and ebook editions, the ebook edition being in color for those that have color enabled readers or reading via computer.
Work on the second half of Kirsty's skinquest story has begun.

Small update

I withdrew from my senior seminar today. It was due to start on the 6th. With all the stress I was already under, the mental and nervous system breakdown, the counseling and care I'm undergoing to rebuild myself, and then pile on that the kids' dad is dying and the fact that I will be needed to give them strength to get through... It is not the time to be spending most of my day doing school. It is unknown as to how much time he has left, all that is known is that if he is released from the hospital it will be into the assisted living facility.

I plan to return and finish my degree later on this year, but now is not the time. I am soooo very close, but being able to be strong for the kids is more important.

Writing will still be happening, that's part of how I deal with things. Selkies' Skins book one will still be posting. Work still continues on getting the print and ebook versions of that projects fine tuned and ready for release, even though it is a bit later than first anticipated.
