FFM #4 2026: The Sisters of the Trumping Silences and the Trump of Completion

July 4th 2026

LadyRainStarDrago AKA Teresa Amehana Garcia

She glowered at the small green orbs that now assaulted her plate, knowing as they fell from Cooky’s ladle that she would have to allow them to do the same to her palate and her gut. Woe to the unfortunate sisters who would be subjected to tonight’s flatulence performance in her shared cell.

Sister Mardra hid a sigh of relief on discovering that a scoop of peas was not the only item served for dinner tonight. It had been done many times before. What was the occasion for two proteins?

More importantly, what was it?

She let her feet flow down familiar paths to her habitual seat. First, the potatoes and cabbage. Next, the creamy mystery meat, served over a healthy and surprising helping of French Fries. Truly divine, blessings to whatever kind soul had donated the beastie to their ancient nunnery. The Sisters of the Trumping Silences were temporarily saved from… the peas. The source of their trumps.

The Abbess watched the sisters with her slate eyes, lingering lightly on Mardra. Mardra placed a large spoonful of the pustulating peas into her mouth and chewed with exaggerated gratuity. Mardra had no doubt those who revealed their dislike of the sacred legume were spirited away into the winding passages beneath the nunnery. Trying to eat them all proved as difficult as usual. Thankfully, she had also been equipped with some French Bread… Mashing them up she spread the peas on the bread, also succeeding somewhat in masking the taste.

The Legend of their own Labyrinth was often whispered among the sister after lights out, particularly the mysterious link to the alligators of the Everglades and what legendary item of provenance they guarded.

Perhaps, whatever it was, would eventually free them from the peas.

Sister Mardra had just finished the last bit of her peas, distracting herself by mentally rerunning the scene wherein Anakin Skywalker had his limbs rather forcefully – she smiled at the pun – removed from his keeping. A soft clatter cut through the silence.

A suspicious wooden dish sat beside her own, bearing a yellow dangerfruit, lemon, and lavender flan concoction that normally would have been met with excitement by any of them. A treat? Again, what was the occasion?

Wait… What was the occasion? Her eyes narrowed, focusing more on the delicacy, then following the arm that was still withdrawing.

The Abbess.

“Sister, it is due to your diligence in tending the wounded on the paths that bring us such unaccustomed plenty this night. It is fitting you receive the first serving of pudding.” Her voice, coarse from disuse other than the soft prayer chants, was difficult to decipher at the distance from her ear. “See me in my chambers after Martins.”

She nodded a reply and ate her pudding as ordered, but Sister Mardra hadn’t been aware that her stomach was capable of dropping any lower. What could the Abbess want?

When the time finally came, and after nearly getting lost in the maze of hallways and stairs yet again (despite all her many long years in the cloister), and a close encounter with a suspiciously steamy “chocolate bar” clearly deposited by the Abbess’s French Bulldog during one of its nighttime escapes helping the cats combat the mice and rats… Mardra finally stood before the simple wooden door.

Which was already opening, since the Abbess had been waiting impatiently for her to catch up. A bony finger pointed in, and she followed it to the seat on the bed slab she’d just been assigned. Not the best start, in her mind. Clearly, also not the best start in the Abbess’s mind, either!

“I am here, Abbess. What did you need of me?” Her eyes met the rheumy ones that were sinking to join her on the bed.

“I have noticed that the world seems to be calling you louder than usual.”

Her stomach turned over. Was this about the crying spat when the ski competition had been interrupted by commercials? Had she missed a pea, and this was how she would be dismissed?

“No louder than usual, to my knowledge. I have my work here, praying for the souls of all those who need better nutrition, roughage, and tending the wounds of those braving the alligators.”

“None know the dangers that await those who try to find what they guard.” The Abbess made the sign over herself, Sister Mardra following and bowing her head on reflex. “But no. I have seen a sign.” She pointed at the small wood sign. It bore Sister Mardra’s former worldly name. “The adventure party had it in their possession.”

She nearly threw up her peas. “Elia Schmitd shall unite and guide us to save the world from the Trump of Completion, with the Trump of Completion.” She read slowly, seeing the literal sign she’d been dreaming of for days. “But, what if I don’t?”

“Then I’m afraid the end of the world looks very wrong and messed up indeed.”

“What even IS the Trump of Completion?”

“That, we need you for.” The Abbess pinned her with a gaze. “Do you remember how you resurrected that man?”

“I… farted… While treating him. It brought him back.”

“And what took him out again?”

“Farting in the medical bay when checking on him...”

“Yes, and so, you must now go through the Sacred Tunnels and Steps of Solemnizations, exit out into the swamp, and go find yourself. It is time.”

“I can’t save the world. I’m just a flatulent middle-aged woman...”

“Save. End. All the same. You must discover how to trumpet the new age into being.”

“Can I at least get a night’s sleep first?”

“Of course.” The Abbess looked at her. “We are The Sisters of the Trumping Silences, not a company of young adventurers on their first Quest. In the morning, after outfitting yourself. See the Chambress in the morning for your provisions.”

“Yes Abbess.”

She left for her cell, trailing odiferous reluctance.

Many interruptions later... Up early to post and go back to sleep. I'll put this in the other locations after more sleep. My bones hurt.

Should I start tagging the short stories with the genres?

Pre-Orders Open for "The Other Workers of Santa Claus" by Alexander Saunders

Santa has had many helpers over his long years, and many friends. Elves and reindeer are not the only denizens of the North Pole. Join Santa, Mrs. Claus, and some of their newest workers, Roger, Becky, and Macy, along with his old friends. Old enemies, old loves, and more clash to create a prickly situation that only Santa's Other Workers and some unexpected volunteers hold the keys to help diffuse. This time it isn't Santa or Rudolph saving Christmas, but three very special young people and some unlikely friends. Join Alexander Saunders by the fireside with a cup of hot cocoa and hear his tale.

This tale is perfect to read aloud with the family during the holidays. The author writes his stories intending for them to be read that way, in the hopes of inspiring the reader. Magic, adventure, wonder, and hope are themes he enjoys working with.

Here are the links for pre-ordering your copy (or copies) of Alexander Saunders' latest release, "The Other Workers of Santa Claus" through THG StarDragon Publishing. The book releases November 1st in both print and e-book starting at these retailers/distributors and is expected to be pushed from them to other distributors connected in the networks through those originating points. Pre-orders are open NOW to be preparing for the Winter Holiday Season. Amazon so far is the only one that does not have the link for the print edition live yet, and according to their mail the print page will go visible on release day. This notice will be updated with that link after that page goes live.

Humble Bundle submission made and Spotify news

Knock on wood and keep your fingers crossed for Alexander Saunders. I just finished sending off a query about getting Treasure of the Ancient Wizards into one of Humble Bundle's upcoming bundles.

Did you know some of our audiobooks are on Spotify? For now it is some of Teresa Garcia and Elizabeth Buckley's books. Once others are available you'll be able to look there in addition to Amazon, Gumroad, and the publishing website's direct sales. I can also be asked to run up physical cd copies.

So far things are still on track to have his book "The Other Workers of Santa Claus" ready for the 2025 holiday season. I'll post an update when preorders will be able to open.

Book Review: Drowning Mermaids (Princess of Ice) by Nadia Scrieva

Princess of Ice (Sacred Breath Book 1)Princess of Ice by Nadia Scrieva
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Book One of the Sacred Breath Series, AKA Drowning Mermaids

Although I adore stories about sea creatures I was not as in the mood for a mermaid story as I originally thought I was when I picked up the book. I am glad that I stuck with it despite my quandaries about what sort of story I actually wanted to read because I found it fitting better and better. This is not your usual mermaid tale or tail. These mermaids are like you and me, they just have a second set of lungs meant for the water. There have been stories about suck folk before, able to breathe both water and air (see some of the selkie tales in folklore). Unlike most of the folklore, these seafolk are not shapeshifters.

Since they are like us, and as it is acknowledged that there is a common root in the story between the sea and land folk, they have the same sort of problems we do; abusive fathers, nation wars, espionage, people not believing the truth when they are first told the truth, and many others. You are given the sense of well-developed nations moving behind the scenes and the complex (and often unknown) interconnection of the land nations with the water nations.

I was thrilled to see such a wonderful explanation of the Bermuda, Dragon Sea, and Alaskan Triangles given. The author actually made me fist pump at such an EXCELLENT use of modern and ancient folklore. We even meet the Ningyo people, who are a favorite subject of story research of mine, with their connection to the undersea dragons. Sadly, no dragons are mentioned, but an extinct species makes a living cameo!

The characters are also well done. I could feel the layers of Trevain Murphy (I usually think of Trevain as a surname, so that got my attention) and empathized with him. In many ways, that character was far more like me than I was comfortable with. I also had not expected what his ancestry was revealed to be when first meeting him at the beginning of the book. I loved the complexity of the female lead (Aazuria) balancing secrecy, her regal role, her role as a sister, and her role as a lover. Both of these characters did a ton of growing in this first book. I also particularly loved the metaphor for life that was done with the bonsai scene. Fantastic work. I look forward to reading through the next book of the series.

Book Review: Heir of Uncertain Magic by Charlie N. Holmberg

Heir of Uncertain Magic (Whimbrel House, #2)Heir of Uncertain Magic by Charlie N. Holmberg
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

We return to the adventures of Merrit Fernsby and Hulda Larkin. Owein, Merrit’s many times great uncle who once possessed a house is still firmly ensconced in a dog. Silas Hogwood, the villain of the last book is dead but his long shadow is still not gone. When the young lovers are settling into their courtship the former lawyer comes into town along with other people from LIKER for the stated reason of an audit on BIKER as a result of what happened in the last book.

This is another great installment to the series and to the world that Ms. Holberg has spun. It is full of twists and turns, red herrings, and yet is neatly tied up by the end. I look forward to the next book, which appears to be forthcoming according to the Kindle library. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves magic, fantasy, and 30-year-olds getting to have adventures.

"Treasure of the Ancient Wizards" by Alexander Saunders available to preorder in ebook

"Treasure of the Ancient Wizards" by Alexander Saunders is available now for pre-orders in ebook format. It goes live via Smashwords on September 3rd and on Amazon on September 4. I am still waiting for the physical proof to arrive for the print edition. An audiobook format is planned for later.

When a young Alex hears a mysterious voice and follows it, his discovery leads him on an epic quest to retrieve a treasure he hopes will help his family. When he and his friends enter into a magical world they together learn about bravery, love, trust, and dependability. The biggest question is, can five teenagers do what many adults have not? Can they get back home if they succeed? If they can are they even going to want to go home after entering a world where unicorns, dragons, witches, wizards, merfolk, fauns, and other such mythical beings are real?

Written from the first person point of view as a young Alex retells his story to his mysterious audience, this tale was crafted for the entire family to enjoy. Perfect for a bedtime read to children, adults can also enjoy this on their own for a moment of respite. Our young hero still holds that passion for justice that many of us allow to die down to an ember but also holds the tenacity to keep pushing to make the world a better place.

A. Buddell has this to say about it:

A surprising read that was hard to put down, this book had impressive scope and a heart of gold.

He gains the ability to do magic, and together with his four best friends, sets off on a perilous adventure through Magicalworld. Along the way they'll learn lessons about trusting your friends, helping others, and keeping an open mind; all the while avoiding deadly traps, and facing unique magical creatures. With so many obstacles in their way, can the group - and their friendship - make it to the Treasure of the Ancient Wizards?

YA Book Review: The House Witch

The House WitchThe House Witch by Delemhach
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I picked this up because I needed a light and whimsical book. I think this is perfect for those who grew up reading books by Patricia Wrede and Jessica Day George but are now old enough to crack a dirty pun without being hissed at by an adult. I think it's fine for teens, young adults, and older folk... but do be aware if you disapprove of such puns for your teen... Honestly, they hear far worse in the school yard and crack worse during sleepovers. There isn't a lot of it in here, but it's there. I cracked up at the part about waiting for the 8-year-old to "drink properly."

The main character is a male witch (THANK YOU to the author for that, from a witch) trying to find a place in the world for himself. I like him because he's within my dating range bracket (if I were on the market), he's witty, he's easily annoyed by people's nonsense, and he keeps his to a minimum... albeit a bit thick in the romance arena. The female lead has her own agenda, and at first, they do NOT hit it off, but they grow on each other while he tries to hide his true self from an entire castle. Quite the challenge for a cook.

This has themes of acceptance, love for oneself as well as others, fairness, and growing into one's inner power. I LOVE the fact he's in his 30's I'm still maturing and not quite there yet. There's plenty to enjoy for those 14ish and up. Just... watch out for that "son of a mage," which is now my new favorite curse.

Book Review: Earth 7 by Summer Whitton and Emily Walker

The first thing to know when getting this is that you are signing up for a series. That might be a deal breaker for some people. It is definitely worth reading and looking for the following books of the overarching story.

El is our leading lady and our first protagonist, stuck on Earth 7 and wanting to get home to Earth 1. Quaid is our second protagonist, a living father, and a retired archeologist. These two meet via a mysterious artifact, a map leading to a tech El desperately needs. A villain of course is needed, and thus we meet Vadik and learn the sad story that drove him insane.

The array of characters is fairly wide and well detailed. When I got the time to read in more than fits and spurts I was easily pulled back in and able to keep up without having to reread. I found the pacing to be a nice middle ground. It was not too fast and leaving out too much detail, nor was it too slow nor overly detailed. The adventure kept me guessing while everything made sense.

I definitely look forward to the next part of the story.

Look it up on Goodreads to find out where to buy!
